Success of Centre Pompidou Málaga

The School’s teachers have made the first visit to Centre Pompidou in the city of Málaga, and their conclusion was unanimous: it is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the international contemporary art of major national and international artists. Centre Pompidou Málaga opened about two months ago and since then many people have visited the Museum, located in the Port of Málaga.

Centre Pompidou Málaga was created to offer the public a sample of works from the Pompidou Centre collection in Paris, always accompanied by diverse temporary exhibitions and multidisciplinary experiences. For example, at present, and in the coming months, art lovers can enjoy the temporary exhibition dedicated to the Spanish painter Joan Miró, with works ranging from 1960 to 1978.Centre Pompidou Málaga

The original Pompidou Centre, opened in Paris in 1977, houses the most important collection of modern and contemporary art in Europe, with more than 100,000 works from 1905 until today.  Centre Pompidou Málaga is housed in the building called El Cubo [The Cube], a jewel of modern architecture. With a surface area of 6300 m2, the building is situated on Muelle 1 [Pier 1] of the Port of Málaga. The main feature of El Cubo is that the top floor is completely open, and, above it, a large cube-shaped skylight made of steel and glass that illuminates the whole Museum.

The opening of Centre Pompidou Málaga, as well as that of the Russian Museum also this year and the consolidation of other important Málaga museums like the Picasso Museum, the Jorge Rando Museum (on Expressionism), the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo or Carmen Thyssen Museum, make Málaga a benchmark of cultural tourism in Spain. The city has recently experienced a great development, especially in the cultural sector, which boosts its fame nationally and internationally.
