The official Spanish level tests are aimed to obtain the Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE). They are the only diplomas recognizing the level of competence and command of the Spanish language. The next exam dates are on 18th July, 17th October and 22nd November. The registration date is open for any of these dates. There are a large number of centers to take the exams in Spain (including Málaga) and the rest of the world. These diplomas are awarded by the Instituto Cervantes, with the authorization of the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science.
The DELE diplomas are indefinitely valid, that is to say, they are a lifelong personal and professional qualification. As a matter of fact, the DELE is the only Spanish level test which is recognized by international private companies, Chambers of Commerce and public and private educational systems. Besides, it helps University students to access to higher education, as well as to get grants and work positions.
There are six different levels, from lower to higher difficulty: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2. The A1 level is used to certify a basic level in the knowledge of the Spanish language. On the other hand, the C2 diploma shows a total command not only of the language itself, but also of the Spanish cultural heritage. There must also be said that there are three different examination sessions to take the DELE level tests: May, August and November.
The DELE exams are designed according to the guidelines established by the CEFR (Common European Frame of Reference for Languages), published by the European Council, that sets up an international and objective standard assessment on the basis of the level that must be reached at every learning stage and taking into account the evaluation results.
